Club takes tree planting, waste recycling campaign to Ikorodu
In a bid to make the environment more conducive and habitable, the Rotary Club of Igbogbo has joined Lagos State in this year’s Tree Planting Day to plant trees in strategic places.
President of the club, Francis Shonubi, said it was the first time the club was embarking on the project.
“We are interested in taking care of the environment and planting trees as part of the seven focal points of our club. We will not only plant the trees but also we will continue to nurture them so they can grow for the benefit of humanity.”
He added that the club was leading a campaign in the community on recycling of waste and the importance of being responsible and responsive to the environment to avoid the dangers of flooding.
The chairman, Planet Earth Environment Committee, Adebisi Ogundipe, said that the event was symbolic, as tree planting promotes healthy living.
“We are stressing the importance of trees to the ecosystem, and to have the kind of ambience we used to have in the past. We are also trying to educate the people on the importance of planting trees. When the schools resume, we are going to educate the students on the importance of tree planting,” he said.
